Other-on is an ongoing collaboration of visual works between Michelle Cho and June Kim.
This body of work from early 2016 is an exploration of identity, relativity, and finding the surreal in the everyday. We were particularly inspired by vividly surreal architecture and how they act as windows of possibility within the quotidian. Using traditional photography and digital manipulation, we weaved a narrative exploring the multiplicity of identities within oneself. Subjects are kept anonymous so as to allow the viewer to interact with the works more directly—to fill the blank canvas of the faceless beings with themselves.
After meeting at Berkeley in 2011, we have been working on various projects in photography and film. June is currently earning her MFA in Photography at Parsons in New York, while Michelle is completing her Masters in Filmmaking at the London Film School.
We are continuing our collaboration with photography, film, and more by re-connecting in a different city each time we meet.
